KALI
Our Kali class blends training methods from several southeast Asian martial arts. Where a lot of weapons instruction treats weapons training as just an extension of the hands, we learn to use our bodies like we use our weapons. Safety is a priority. Movements are broken down into easily learned segments. You will gain the ability to do techniques such as disarms, locks, sweeps and throws in flow. Kali is world famous for its flow drills which are safe, fun, and give you a sense of the movement and real speed of combat.
Kali is a word that encompasses all the Filipino martial arts. The word itself translates as the study of body motion. There are many other names for these arts such as Eskrima or Arnis. The weaponry and empty hand are taught together; the principles being common to both and interchangeable. Regardless of whether armed or unarmed, the student learns to relate to any situation using the same concepts of body angling, positioning, zoning, and flowing with the opponent. Depending upon speed, footwork and skill rather than brute strength, this fluid, practical method of self-defense is one of the most comprehensive martial arts systems known.. The weaponry training covers a wide spectrum featuring stick, blade and knife as well as flexible weapons and weapons of opportunity. The art of Kali is renowned for it’s stick and blade fighting techniques and knife defense.
